3 years comparison Needle felting by The-GoblinQueen 3 years comparison Needle felting by The-GoblinQueen
I'll add this to scraps latter. Entry for the Draw this Again Challenge, not really a drawing but needle felted soft sculptures

The before can be seen here- [link]

I just thought it would be fun to show my improvement/progress in 3 years on needle felting.

The little lovebird done in 2007 was one of the first things that I made, after 2 dragons & a dog lol. So if I'm remembering right it was the 4th needle felted thing I ever made.

The one in 2010 was the first with clay parts which I think I'll be doing more of in the future. Now I just need to make a lovebird this year so I can see how I've improved from 2010 to now ^_^

I'm just starting out in needle felting, how do you attach the finished clay part to the felt piece?

wire inside the clay & then poked into the wool & good strong glue (hope that makes sense) ^_^

Awesome! I love seeing pictures of how far people have progressed!

I've been playing around with Paperclay parts in my needle felting. I like the Paperclay because it's lighter than, say, polymer clay.

Beautiful!!

Thanks! Yeah paperclay is a good idea, I got some but I think it was already dried up because it just crumbled & fell a part :( I'm going to try La Doll air dry clay & see if it's any lighter than polymer. I found the resin sculpt was very heavy but for the birds feet it gave a nice base, so the weight was good.

Thanks again!

I've never heard of La Doll Air Dry! I like to sculpt with the "magic sculpt" resin too (but paper clay is so much lighter) & I agree with the heavy base idea. Never thought of that, THANKS!

Yeah its great stuff, once it's dry it can be carved, and sanded. It's almost like porcelain once it's dried. I still need to buy some paper clay that's not old lol & give it a try

Looks great, the clay bits really make quite a difference to the realism. I really want to see what a 2012 lovebird looks like.

Do you think the difference is due to an increase in skill, a greater amount of time/effort given, a change in technique, or some combination of those?

A bit of all of those & better material too, I didn't have as nice of quality of wool with the first one & I've found that some wools work better than others, didn't know that back then lol

Cool! Impressive, how much difference a few years and several dozen (?) projects make. Practice does make perfect.
